The Art of the Hydroponicum

Kate Downie: The Citrus House

When artist Kate Downie visited Achiltibuie to work on her paintings inspired by the local landscape, bad weather meant she needed to take cover. Kate was delighted with the offer of the former hydroponicum to work in and so we can add “artist’s studio” to the ever increasing list of work spaces it has been used for since the plants moved out. Kate was able to paint the Achiltibuie scenery from the comfort of the banana house and loved her immediate surroundings so much she incorporated elements of the building into the paintings. Kate’s work is on exhibition at The Scottish Gallery 16 Dundas Street, Edinburgh or you can view it online at www.scottish-gallery.co.uk.
